The only way that we sell our Grass Fed Beef is also the most economical way and that's through shares. We sell both Half Steer Shares and Whole Steer Shares. Pricing for our Half Steer Share is $5.75/lb and our Whole Steer Share is $5.25/lb. Weight is determined by hanging weight (beef meat hanging after processing). Typically our steers have a hanging weight of 400 - 500 pounds depending on when we take them and how they have grown out. That may seem a little small if you have every purchased a Steer Share before, but because of the breeds we raise and the fact that we don't pump anything to them our sizes are usually a little smaller. That weight means that a typical Whole Steer Share will be between $2,100 - $2,625 and a Half Pork Share would be $1,150 - $1,440.
You will have a lot of flexibility of what you want in your steer share. Such as, you select the cuts that you and your family like and don't have to get the cuts that you don't like or won't use. That meat can go into your ground beef portion. That means that you get exactly what you will use. We do this by working with you to fill out a cut sheet after you place a deposit on a share. Then when we take the steer in for processing we give the processor your cutting preferences and they do their thing. We pick them up from the processor and set up a time for you to retrieve your share.
We do ask for a deposit for your steer share. The deposits are $600 for a Half Share and $1,000 for a Whole Share. Selling our beef in Shares rather than individual cuts helps both the consumer and the farmer. The farmer gets paid for the share which is a larger installment allowing the farmer to pay for the feed for our other animals, the processing cost, and other cost associated with raising the animal/s. While the customer gets a better deal on their meat. We are able to give you this great deal because a major cost in us selling to you in smaller portions is storing it in our freezers or in the freezers at the processor.
At this time of transition for our family and our farm we are exploring new ideas to make our farm successful!
One of those ideas are Buying Clubs. A Buying Club is a way that you, our customer, can still get all of our Pasture Raised Meats that you have grown to love, but instead of either of us having to get up and go to a farmers market on the weekend we meet up at a drop point and we deliver your meats that you have pre-ordered online.
This helps us by knowing what we have sold, and only packing those items as well as keeps us from having to spend our entire weekend at markets.
We have loved our markets and getting to meet new people that share our love for farm fresh meats has been great, but we have lots to do on the farm to keep up with demand and we want to spend more of our weekends with our family. The family that is growing come February!
